The Kru is super excited to welcome our newest designer, Bay Routh (all the way from North Carolina). Bay is a sucker for hand lettering + eclectic tunes – we could go on and on about her and her resumé, but we’ll just let Bay do the talking:
Hometown: Kernersville, NC
Graphic Design/Education Background: University of North Carolina at Charlotte
What brings you to the Augusta-Area? Besides my awesome job ;), a much needed change of scenery including great people, culture, and southern hospitality.
Why did you want to work at Kruhu? Everything from the studio lifestyle and brand vision to the down-to-earth team always keeping it interesting and a pleasure to be around! My ultimate goal as a designer has been to find a team that shares the same mindset and passion towards design and its clients as I do and it is such a rewarding feeling to have found Kruhu.
What do you hope to learn from working with the Kru? I hope to broaden my design strategy and thinking skills followed by new techniques and methods in order to create great products. I also hope to learn more in depth about the logistics involved with communicating with clients and figuring out what best suits their needs.
What inspires you? Besides turning on my favorite tunes, I like to get my creative juices flowing by meeting other designers and learning from their experiences. Hearing people speak about their thought process allows me to keep an open mind when designing for a wide variety of projects. I like to make sure my designs stay fresh.
What’s your favorite part about being a graphic designer? My favorite part about being a graphic designer is having the freedom to brainstorm and think differently. I love the beginning of projects because I am able to think without restrictions in order to narrow down the perfect design solution. It opens up so many possibilities even if they aren’t used.
Favorite kind of music? My go-to everyday music is either 90s Alternative or anything by John Mayer and Jazz when I’m cooking
Favorite animal? Dog 100%
Most interesting fact about you? Probably that my name is Bay Routh and the only accurate assumption that goes along with it is that my parents love the coast. I basically grew up on a boat always covered in sand. Oh, and that my boyfriend’s name is Cape…yeah like a light house.
Anything else you’d like to tell us? I’m a huge wine-o, I love dogs and I love to experiment with brush lettering and calligraphy in my spare time. My passion for design started with my weakness for vintage furniture and interior design in general at a young age. I’m a huge believer in “you are what you think about” and I strive to surround myself with positive influences. I’ve always loved to travel and explore new places but moving to Georgia alone on a whim is probably the boldest thing I’ve ever done.
Observations from the first few days with the Kru? So far, the Kru has been everything I hoped for and more. I feel like I’m going to love it here and feel privileged to be able to create with such a great team!
